  1. 1. My favourite rock type is sedimentary rock because it has a history to it, it was formed from pre-existing organisms. From this rock type my favourite rock is breccia.
    2. The breccia rock can be found in New Jersey, Arizona, and California.
    3. Characteristics of this rock are; angular fragments, mix of rock fragments and mineral grains.

  2. Jasper
Jasper is an opaque, impure variety of silica, usually the color of jasper are red, brown, or green and rarely blue. This mineral breaks with a smooth surface, and is used for ornamentation or as gemstone. The name means “spotted or speckled stone”, and is derived via old French Jaspre. Jasper can be modified by the diffusion of minerals along discontinuities providing the appearance of vegetative growth. Jasper is also the mystical birth stone for the month of October. It often contains organic material and mineral oxides which give it interesting patterns, bands and colours.

  3. 1. My favourite rock is Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson because he's not only a famous wrestler, but also an actor.
    2. This rock could most commonly be found in California on a film set, or in a wrestling ring
    3. Characteristics are; Tan, massive, and has a really small head

    2. Nice...thanks for the humour Ben. I appreciate that. Also, note I am reading each and every post on here.

  4. My favourite rock is the igneous rock because it is formed from molten rock and magma which makes it unique.
Igneous rocks are commonly found on the deep sea floor. They can also be found along the edges of continents and in volcanic islands.
Igneous rocks are split into two categories extrusive and intrusive. Extrusive rocks are formed when a volcano erupts and molten rock flows over the earth's surface. Intrusive rocks originate when molten rock solidifies deep within the lithosphere.

  5. My favourite rock is "The Rock" with Nic Cage and Ed Harris. This movie features a knockout cast with good writing and spectacular action. Not only that, but it features the legendary Sean Connery.
    1. This rock is directed by Michael Bay, the maker of other masterpieces such as Transformers 2.
    2. This rock was formed in 1996, and is very new geologically speaking.
    3. This rock grossed nearly $350 million in the box office.

  6. 1) My favourite rock is the metamorphic rock primarily because it can change itself in shape/colour through a process known as "metamorphism"
    2) You can find metamorphic rocks deep within the earth's crust and at the base of mountains.
    3) The metamorphic rock is classified by texture/composition, they rarely have fossils, and may have layers of visible crystals.

  7. My favorite type of rock is pumice.Pumice has a very low density and floats in water which I find very interesting, hence why it is my favourite. This is an extrusive igneous rock and is formed from the froth of magma. It is found around sites of volcanic eruptions but it can easily float to different locations. This rock is very porous and lightweight.

  8. My favourite rock is coal, as many of my older family members were miners and it was the way that they earned their money. I also like it because it can provide energy, and while it looks so simple and dull, it consists of carbon atoms, which, when extreme heat and pressure are applied, can become diamond. As a sedimentary rock, it was formed when the weight of many layers of organic material compressed, and it often found in low-lying, wet areas all around the world. Anthracite coal is black, hard, brittle, and shiny.

  9. 1.My favourite kind of rock is the conglomerate rock. This is my favourite rock because I like the look of it and how it encompasses portions of many other types of rocks. Also, these used to be the rocks I would always find as a kid on the lake shore by my Uncle's house so I've known about them for a long time.
    2. This rock is commonly found on the bottoms of lakes or rivers, as well as along shores and on beaches.
3.The characteristics of this rock include that it is multiple colours, and is large rounded particles, such as pebbles bound together by other smaller particles, or a cement like substance, to create one rock.As well this rock generally has a coarse texture.

  10. One of my favourite rocks is Obsidian. Obsidian is generally an extrusive igneous rock - forming along the edges of lava flows, where lava contacts water, and when airborne lava cools before hitting the ground. It is known as a “volcanic glass”. Appearance-wise, it is dark and lustrous, often with a very smooth surface. It is often black, though small impurities in the makeup can add various other colours and patterns to the appearance.

Obsidian was originally used for knives and weapons, due to the fact that it could be chipped into very sharp points (some as small as 3 nanometers!). Nowadays, it is primarily used for jewelry - it is extremely beautiful. Obsidian varies in value depending on rarity: imperfections in the makeup create colour and pattern, making it even more sought after for the use in jewelry and decoration.

  11. My favourite mineral is Opal because it is unlike any other with all the pretty colours in it, also it is my grandmothers birthstone and i always called it the "rainbow gem". You can most commonly find this mineral in Australia. This mineral is white with a wonderful array of colours gleaming as though reflected, almost like a rainbow. It is normally a translucent-ish white colour, but depending on what type of opal you get, it can give off a different colour as a sort of illusion. This mineral is found in rocks and is quite jagged on the edges, yet very smooth on the surface and has a very glossy/ glassy look to it. This mineral makes a beautiful gem stone for necklaces and jewellery.

  12. My favourite mineral is Azurite. Why you ask? I googled 'cool rocks' and clicked on the first link that came up. This one had a short name and looked cool. This mineral is a dark blue, which is really deep and clear. This mineral is occasionally used for jewellery, but is more often collected because of its appearance.

  13. My favourite mineral is sulphur. Sulphur is probably my favourite mineral as it has a reputation to smell horrendous, and that's pretty cool I guess. It forms inside sedimentary rocks and are also found in salt domes. It has the colour yellow and as I said, when combined with water and is burned, it produces a god-awful stench.
